Rainy days are never a failure when you are knocking around

What do you do when your plans call for going to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens to see the cherry blossoms in bloom, and a horrible storm system pushes through the area and dumps multiple inches of rain?

The weather was brutal…rain…wind…cold…so we headed out to get breakfast at a local establishment that used to be Comfi but is now Cozy. Get it?

The eatery called Comfi Café that was popular for its unique dishes and plentiful servings changed hands and is now Cozy Café with a revamped menu and huge amounts of food.

We decided to take a ride into Brooklyn to the Museum of Failure. That’s right…there is a museum to celebrate…failure. So we drove all the way there to find out…they were out of business. Just kidding. But there really IS a museum…an entire exhibit that embraces and displays acts of failure.

It is located in Building 7 of the Industry City under the Gowanus Expressway. This is the old area of the Brooklyn piers that has been repurposed beautifully with waterfront green spaces, eateries, retail, and art galleries. An entire day can be spent exploring when the weather cooperates.

On a gloomy day, you may not want to think about failing, right? But sometimes it’s a “pick me up” to know that there are others, more famous and, believe it or not, a hell of a lot more successful than you, who have actually experienced failure. And walking through the displays, there were some pretty familiar stories.

The RMS Titanic was supposed to be unsinkable. But it wasn’t. The movies had more successful runs.

The DeLorean was supposed to be the car of the future. But it wasn’t. The designers forgot the flux capacitor.

The Trabant was supposed to be the ultimate automotive marvel. But it wasn’t. It took 30 years for the East German company to admit that it was nothing more than a clown car.

At least I didn’t try to buy the Trabant. The DeLorean I purchased, but my dear Uncle Frank talked me out of it when the company went out of business. “Where are you going to get parts if something is wrong with it?” he asked. Of course I should not have listened and bought two. LOL

There were plenty of other flops on display: failed versions of Oreo cookies; failed Coke products; failed IBM artificial intelligence mechanism; failed Google glasses; failed Snapchat sunglasses; failed telephone finger gloves; failed Bic pens for females; failed plastic, yes, PLASTIC bicycle. Oh…and don’t forget Blockbuster. But a short drop from the penthouse to the outhouse.

Believe it or not, Elon Musk, one of the richest people in the world, had a lot more failures than successes, including being recognized by the Guinness World Records for the largest loss of personal fortune in history – $182 billion.

And then there is Donald J. Trump. His game – Trump: The Game…was an epic failure as it was nothing more than a more complicated version and rip-off of…of course…Monopoly.

The Trump game.

It was a really interesting, and entertaining exhibit. Failure on parade.

Make America Fail Again…

Yes…there is always more food involved so we made our way over the Manhattan Bridge and into Chinatown to find a new place to eat. And we did not fail.

We walked a couple of blocks in the heavy downpour and stopped in front of Canton Lounge. A much different menu from what we have seen at other establishments in the area. Melissa went with the beef lo mein and I had the lobster with ginger and scallions. Great choices!

We stopped at a bakery and got some goodies before we got back to the car, and made our journey to…where else…Wawa for coffee.

Share your failures…

Over hill, over dale, when you knock around…you never fail.
